MORAČA RIVERSIDE
MORAČA RIVERSIDE
Landscape Riverside Park
International Competition
Podgorica, Montenegro, 2020
Morača Riverside imagines the river as Podgorica’s most powerful civic landscape: a continuous threshold where stone, water, shade and public life meet.
The project works with the force of the Morača as a deep natural cut through the city. Its rocky banks, steep topography and dense vegetation create a dramatic condition where the urban fabric suddenly opens into geology, water and horizon.
The proposal activates both sides of the river as a sequence of inhabitable edges. Paths follow the changing levels of the terrain, terraces appear as extensions of the slopes, and viewpoints frame the contrast between the upper city and the lower landscape of the river.
Across the two margins, the intervention introduces moments of pause, crossing and encounter. Platforms, shaded clearings and landscape rooms transform the riverbanks into places for walking, observing, gathering and descending towards the water.
Morača Riverside proposes a civic geography for Podgorica: a river landscape where the city reconnects with its own terrain, and where public life is shaped by the presence of rock, vegetation, movement and water.
