    TROPICAL AIRPORT

    TROPICAL AIRPORT
    Steel Architecture Competition
First Prize National Contest / Venezuela International Representation
    Puerto Cabello, Venezuela, 2009

Tropical Airport explores the airport as a light climatic infrastructure: a place of arrival, movement and shade within the humid landscape of the Caribbean coast.

Conceived through steel as both structure and atmosphere, the project works with large spans, covered exterior spaces and open circulation to respond to the conditions of tropical weather. The architecture is organised as a protective canopy — a system capable of sheltering passengers while allowing air, light and landscape to move through the building.

The proposal understands the airport not only as a terminal, but as a threshold between territory and journey. Its open structure creates a sequence of shaded transitions where travel begins in contact with climate, vegetation and horizon.
